I grew up in and around Lowell, Massachusetts, an old mill town northwest of Boston, surrounded by my big Irish and Italian Catholic family. Pretty much everyone worked physical, demanding jobs with little to no paid time off. My dad was a bricklayer and joined the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen when I was eight years old, which forever shaped my understanding of workers’ rights and labor organizing. I found solace and belonging in music and books, got politicized around abortion access and reproductive justice as I started eagerly rebelling against my Catholic school education, and started my nonprofit career at a little organization called Toxics Action Center (now Community Action Works) in 2005. You can see the rest of my career history on my LinkedIn page.
After nearly 20 years of leadership roles in nonprofit operations, finance, and HR, I felt a pull toward something different. The way I was working for most of that time often left me feeling brittle and overwhelmed (maybe if you are reading this you can relate?) and I really do believe another way is possible. These systems weren’t built for us and don’t meet our needs as people who care deeply about social justice.
I’m here to support nonprofit organizations who want to stay true to their values and focus on their missions while also meeting compliance requirements and ensuring their people have the tools and systems they need to do their best work.
Other meaningful areas of my life include volunteering as a dog walker at my local animal shelter, taking horseback riding lessons after a 30-year break, backyard bird watching, and following Tori Amos whenever she goes on tour. I live in Tucson, Arizona with my husband Tate and our three geriatric pets. I organize locally with a mutual aid group called Community Care Tucson — we distribute food, water, and hygiene supplies to our unhoused neighbors every week in Armory Park and also do a lot of public education and engagement on the housing crisis.
I’m a big reader across all formats — print, digital, and audio. See what I’ve read recently on The StoryGraph app.
